Share
Tie us together as learning clusters. Pedagogy.

  • We are part of a big team.
  • We are tapping into something that has always been there.  Sharing part of human nature since time began. Eve sharing apple with Adam.  All emotions encompassed - enables humanity and represents who we are.
  • youtube, bebo, twitter, sharing was being diverted circa 2005. Life changing.
  • Work with students to provide an authentic audience for their learning outcomes.
  • sharing in the digital age has altered the audience to which we share - we are reaching beyond our own community
  • Authentic audience - an audience has the power to move on!
  • Connected learners share - positive, thoughtful, helpful.  New Graphic created.
Blogger
Blogger chosen as the main online space for our young people to share.
  • Why?  old ap, but in 2021, well aware it is not the greatest place that kids want to be, ie Tiktok.
  • Purpose is not about the vehicle, more learning to drive.  Blogger is old school, but is functional and the purpose behind it is to teach young people to share online that is secure, legal, large audience, resembles the hot sites, multi-purposed, guaranteed three check system.  No new sign in for G suite users.  Same email address for everything.  Can check what students are doing online.  Can be used by both learners and teachers.  Enables us to utilise cybersmart process.
  • Finishing - do we give our kids a chance to finish!  There are some kids that never finish!                   Share to finish learning   - The starting point of new learning.
  • John Hattie - feedback feedforward has huge impact on young people.
  • Changed 'finished miss' to 'Ready to share' - culture change.
  • Manaikalani innovative teachers - '21.  share

Google Forms slideshow
  • Name the form

  • top left hand corner - multiple choice
  • Cogwheel in settings - a variety of options.  - look at responses/audience.

Practise time given!!!! to create our own google form. A form created!

Hapara Hot tips - Slideshow

  • No word from Kelsey re Hapara.
  • we looked at Cam's class - activity for all students can be seen, what has been commented on, how much they have published etc.
  • The power behind sharing.
Vicki Archer - My Maps
Need time to practise - this looks like fun!

  • mymaps google.com
  • Create a new map

Dorothy Burt - Spreadsheets  Found this so interesting.  Life changing for me

to make a new sheet - go to the little plus sign bottom left.

  • Click on Letter or number and that will highlight the whole row.

  • Grabhand - will swap columns.
  • command z will fix it - return back to what it was.
  • Go to the greek sign
  • Click sum and it will give you choices of what to do.
  • Play around with this - there are sooooo many features.
  • Autofill
  • Languages - go to funny E, then scroll down to Google, translate.
  • To reduce columns - make sure top line is grey, then use the arrow to make cols smaller, it will then automatically make the whole lot smaller.
  • to make a chart - use the explorer tool on sheets. options for making a pie chart etc.

  • Use bottom right of sheet - explore! then you are able to make a chart.

  • Use the three dots (you have to be on the graph) move to own sheet!
  • Sort our columns/rows into alphabetical order - highlight all rows. Go to data on toolbar then select from options. (make sure that the child's name is highlighted.
  • example for Vicki. - showed Vicki how to do this on her HP. The power of working together.

Insert Image -tab used here.  For some reason I couldn't upload the same way I have done the previous images

Google photos - a sharable photo album - when you want to use the photo you don't have to upload.

Time to reflect and share with colleagues. Writing a quality blog

  • What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

  • What did I learn that could be used with my learners, how could they use

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in

Wow! what a fantastic day! 150% better than last week online. I feel so alive and stimulated by what we have gone through today. Thank you Dorothy, Emily and Sharon! Fantastic! For me the sheets was so empowering. I can sit in a meeting now and not be too afraid to touch my mouse! Yes, I am being serious!

Confidence: I can honestly say, the WHOLE day! Everything made sense, some was a little out of it for me, but I did keep up and felt comfortable.

What can I use: definitely the sheets, I am feeling confident about analysing data, when needed. It may take me some time to re-familiarise my how it's done, but I do know where to go to look for the information.

What could improve my capability: making the blogs, notes as I go, linking the slideshows so that I can find this information quickly.

What do I need to do now?

Google Slides
Creation tool =  plan design create!
Give consideration to where you are presenting, ie text size, image, etc.
An image says a thousand words - be mindful of who you are presenting to.

  • What do you want the audience to know about.
  • Know you intentions first, before you start. Where do you want to go. Then jump on slide deck.
  • Your intention is not to write screeds on google slides.
  • Defaults in slides: ditch them as they are restrictive.  Use your own slides, create.
  • Use consistent formatting!!!!  ie, fonts, colours, etc. (no more than two fonts, same with colour) you want focus on content not background.
  • your slides should support you talk, not be read from the whole time. They are there to support you.
  • Use the tools built in - animations, bit emoji etc, They have links.
  • lots of different functions within Google Slides enables teachers and learners to play.
  • (refer back to the slideshow for ideas on what can be done) (we are a little limited by the age of our ipads, but slides will work)
  • Lots of apps within google slides.
Little steps at a time - take from DFI and increase your usage of different ideas.

Creating with slides:

A bit of a mission, especially putting it into the blog.  Thanks Sharon for spoon feeding me!

Lots of information today.  Whew! Found the online thing quite difficult, but hey, we got there in the end!  Thank you ladies, and thank you colleagues for being so patient!

I'm looking forward to next week with the spreadsheets.

Workflow

Feedback:

Enjoyed hearing what the others were doing in their schools following last weeks DFI course.  Very positive and encouraging me to try more of the applications discussed.  Others in a similar boat re; If you don't use it you lose it! That is me!  Hence taken to writing in a notebook.

Google Meet:

Functions that I have used: remote meetings, video calling, screen sharing, and record our meetings. Gosh I didn't realise I had done this, obviously during lockdown.

How to get into google meet: calendar, gmail, and hyperlink - me, usually through gmail, if invited, or calendar. (Using gmail at the moment for staff meetings from home after DFI course) Nice to revisit this as most forgotten as I haven't used since last year in lockdown.  Had to get a staff member to email an invite for last weeks staff meeting.  (This will not be used by me in class as I am with 'The Nest', so very new new entrants!)

Meet Link for the Day:

Dorothy Burt presented via Google Meet

Learn Create Share provides a common language.  The simpler it is the more inclusive it is.

Good practice should still be recognisable in any learning environment.

How often to do we hear/think/say - Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater! How true.

Expecting accelerated results without effective teaching is a disaster waiting to happen!

Learn: recognised effective practice. what are teachers doing that we can see in our classrooms that makes effective practice. (What does Learn look like at SHS?)
Use the acronym RATE: recognise, amplify, turbocharge = effective practice.

Vicki Archer:
              App - Google Keep
Works across platforms - I love this idea - downloaded app and played.  It appears far more useful/versatile that the note icon on the laptop.  Vicki talked about how easy it is.  Looking forward to playing with this!

Chalk and Talk  Gmail slides
Key settings - Archive: doesn't delete just puts it away, you can still search for it.
Labels: can organise  into groups - works like a folder.
Filter: automate your emails - they go direct to folder. means they don't clog up inbox.
Starring: star emails as important to come back to later, you can colour code.
Conversation view - group conversations together

It is flexible and can me made to the way I work!

Attach;  Confidential Mode, it means recipients won't have the option to forward, copy, print or share. Scheduling emails: we do this, even on Hero.
Google Translate; don't do into Te Reo. it is not a completely accurate. (you will get the gist of the message but possibly not all)
Advanced options; you can set up templates for frequent users.

Spent time  playing.

Google Calendar:
Can access on laptop or phone.
Settings on who can see MY calendar?
Didn't realise what a great help this could be with day to day 'stuff' that is easily accessible.
10 minutes play time.

Taming my tabs:
I will need time to play with this.  Lots of information here but,...........

Meet Recordings:
Gosh this was a bit of a mission......

DFI - Reflections for Day one.

Quote of the day;  "This is harder than childbirth!" and no it wasn't me that said that!

Fast and furious - interesting that there was quite a bit that I do in my day to day doings at both school and at home.

Great to see a mixture of abilities - I thought that I would be the only dinosaur here, but no..... that was the first pleasant surprise.

Manaiakalani; enjoyed hearing the story of where the name came from.  Not being from Christchurch and never having been involved with a Manaiakalani cluster previously I found the explanation really helpful.

Todays Learnings; moving around the google dashboard has encouraged me to be a little more adventurous.  Some of the workings of today I am familiar with, a lot I didn't even know were there.  I am very much a person, if I don't use something all the time I lose it!  I am looking forward to having time to play with the apps that we have used today, reading the notes in more depth and taking the time to digest.

Organising and categorising through google groups was particularly advantageous for me as I have folders, sheets etc, all over the place and find locating 'stuff' quite difficult.  Making sure that each is dated '21 first is a great idea.  Learning that an asterisk takes precedence over numbers which take precedence over letters was interesting.   This will be helpful with both professional and personal life.

Final Day!

External Recognition Agenda Day 9  Feedback: Wow what a fantastic learning journey this has been for all of us! A huge thank you to all th...
