The End!

OH! and I have now edited my blog post because I have been told there is more.........

There is a badge on the horizon so ......

This is my moment to be proud of:
I went to a course Thursday/Friday of last week - this was a presenters desktop!!!!!!
An anagram springs to mind! (But I won't use it!)

Thank you DFI - Mine looks nothing, and I say nothing, like this!
Thanks to Emily and Shazza!

Reflection:

I have honestly learned so much, feeling very proud of myself. Self esteem now flying in this area!

Week 8

Week 8, Computational thinking!

An example of weekly reflection time:

We do this each week. Great to hear others and their ideas and discussions.

T shaped Literacy - Link. (45 minutes) - Look at it for a Team meeting! (aimed at Juniors)

Dorothy Burt + Link to slides

Love seeing the manaiakalani story! Really helps to make sense.

empowered:
Agency:  whanau thinking agency ie, OT.  So Agency or Empowered (use it)

Difficulty feeling empowered when living on basic.  $19,000 PA. social welfare budget.
Working Poor - money gives you choice.

Slide 15: Five books a day - came from the T shaped literacy link! We need to step up on this.   Children who have five plus thread rapidly develops their language capability.

Flowcharts activity - my laptop was not allowed ap from google docs, add on, mermaid.

We played with coding - quote of the day, when told, "you only needed to do two" the reply was, (not from me!) "oh but we are gifted!"

Time to reflect and share with colleagues

  • What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

Use the word Agency carefully with our whanau. Empowered has a far more positive outcome.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

  • The importance of teaching in different styles/ways to accomodate all learners and giving all the opportunity to reach optimumness. (word made up by Ilisa from Belfast).

  • What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

Accomodate all learners - appreciate them!!!!!

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

My confidence in the use of DT has improved hugely. This will improve my capabilities within my practice. I am looking forward to applying some of my new learning in the classroom context.

Learning, anytime, anywhere, any pace, anyone! Removing the traditional 9.00 to 3.00, empowering learners to access anywhere!

We can rewind, go at our pace!

Not suggesting 24 hour learning, but it does mean that learning is accessible anytime.
Priority learners come in with less language and Decile 1, 30,000.000 words behind Decile 10 school!
We can assume there is not a lot of learning occurring outside school hours!

WE re-state it loudly and boldly, YOU have proven in 2020 that digital technologies have the ability to positively change circumstances and should not be dismissed as ‘just’ a tool.

Links to aps:

WE have introduced tools through the DFI that empower YOU and your learners to produce rewindable learning objects

Chromebook apps

https://www.screencastify.com/

https://www.wevideo.com/ Stock Media and templates have been added recently that expand possibilities. Record function now has 3 choices:

Free online video maker with music and pictures

Create compelling video content with ease! Piece together your footage with photos, music, voiceovers, and beautiful transitions from one scene to the next.

iPad Apps

iMovie -

Clips - make a movie with Clips

Quicktime - make a movie on Mac

Apps to explore:  Chromebooks

Apps to explore:  Mobile phones / iPads

Add more if you have them

What has changed for me in my practice since lockdown?

Proud of: Screen Castify - Using to refresh memory of 'the how' to do things. Kelly and Ange very kindly did a few for me which helped no end.

Changes: I am far more agile online now. Don't get me wrong there are times and things that I have no idea, but lockdown and DFI have improved my capabilities hugely!

Regrets; That we did alot online during lockdown, and now we don't!!!

Being Cybersmart: smart and safe

Emily - Partnership THE slideshow

Partnership -

  • Ako is a whānau or community experience

  • Engagement in the decision making eg Kawa of Care

  • Engagement through device ownership

Participation -

  • Every learner can participate

  • Every teacher can be supported to become Digitally Fluent when all devices are the same

  • Engagement through device ownership

Protection -

  • This should all happen behind the scenes

  • Manaiakalani partnered with Hapara to design Teacher Dashboard to make all digital learning visible

  • Partnership with N4L and Linewize for filtering

Introduction into why we have the chromebook and the ipad.

Just because I can, I put this in here!

Lunchtime Break - Drove then Scootered - all for a COFFEE!

Chromebooks tolerate alot more abuse that an ipad!

Beginning of the Year - Before school starts:

  • All iPads set up the same - icons in the same folders, lock screen

  • All iPads signed into individual learners’ Google Accounts (Google Drive, Chrome & Explain Everything)

  • iPads labelled on the outside with learners’ name

  • Stylus labelled with learners name

Beginning of the Year - With the learners

  • Start with ‘kawa of care’ routines including how to carry, where to store, where to be.

  • Use ‘safety video’ BEFORE learners’ use them - play repeatedly over first few weeks - unpack as a class

  • Loss of device for breaking ‘kawa of care’

  • Whole class lessons over a few weeks (about 4 weeks)

Explain Everything:

OMG - created by DN
Explain Everything - what fun, I can see this being used in The Nest.

Finally: End of day!

Time to reflect and share with colleagues

  • What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

I've really enjoyed learning the pedagogy behind LCS. This makes so much more sense now. Thank you.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

Using the Ipad today has been a very steep learning curve, but...... I have to say that I do feel far more confident regarding getting the kids to DO something on the ipads, rather than play games!

  • What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

Creating more meaningful, rewindable learning opportunities for the little learners.
  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
Taking photos and inserting those into Explain Everything! This was 100% new learning!

All in all a great day, with a lot of fantastic ideas to use in the classroom. Loved the Ipad stuff, not so much the Chromebook!

DFI 6 - Enabling Access Sites

Note to self:  Need to have spend some time looking at sites from last week.

Connecting to Manaikalani - Dorothy Burt

Connected: School, Community, Nation, World.

These are the joists of the house - we must embrace visibility.

Make the connections - network - shared language/pedagogy this gives us all strength.

Teaching students to operate as a positive digital citizen!

Focus on positive rather than the negative - language, provide opportunities to practise connecting.

Chalk and Talk - Leading learning using our google sites.

Slide Show

Having good research behind what you do in the classroom.

Digital makes teaching visible.

 slide three;  SAMR  - model

Purpose of learning site:

  • rewindable learning,
  • accessible for all, anytime, anywhere,
  • personalised learning,
  • visible planning and teaching
  • hub information, re events, grouping and progressions for both learners and parents.
  • weekly overviews and timetables.
  • multiple opportunities to access content and the learning process.
Think about your audience when you are posting - adult, child.

Connection between devices./ all blogs should look the same!!!!!

Visual appeal slide 7.

Access - three clicks!

Slide 10 - looking at Pt England school timetable/blog.  ??? What about court orders, no photos, etc.???

Playing with the sites;

Time for us to play and create a site!!!!

Hapara Hot tips.
Yes, I am now able to get onto the sight.  Not used for our little people.

Time to reflect and share with colleagues

  • What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

I've really enjoyed developing my understanding of how the LCS Manaiakalani kaupapa was developed and how it works within our pedagogy. This makes far more sense to me now.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

Creating a site for Te Ope Ruaraki early learners. It will take me a while but I do believe that I can do it. Working with Theresa we did create one today. Feeling quite proud of ourselves, particularly since T has missed the last two sessions.

  • What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

Creating a site that can be reached and used by parents and early learners.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
Just knowing more about the features and using them on my laptop is a huge learning curve, positive, for me. Having the ability to use a greater range of features is empowering.
